A smart link reads each visitor's country and routes them to the matching storefront automatically, keeping your tracking ID attached the whole way.
A product page URL on its own carries no affiliate tag, so a click on it earns you nothing even if the visitor buys. Amazon product pages also carry a lot of extra path segments and query parameters (the product title, a session reference, a category breadcrumb) that have nothing to do with tracking and can make the link fragile to copy around.
